Mitch McConnell destroyed the one mechanism the Senate had in place to stop ideologically extreme candidates from being confirmed to the high court — the Supreme Court filibuster.

McConnell and the Republicans sidestepped the rules by invoking the nuclear option. Now Judge Gorsuch only needs a simple majority.

This was a blindly partisan move that will have consequences.
