House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was in Indianapolis Friday for the Young Democrats of America national convention. Pelosi’s remarks focused on the diversity of ideas within the Democratic Party.
Pelosi highlighted what she called the Democratic Party’s legacy of creative solutions to complex problems facing the country. She pointed to recent examples, like legislation passed by the U.S. House to combat pay inequality and to raise the minimum wage.
She pointed to the diversity of the U.S. House – 60 percent of its members are women, people of color or a part of the LGBTQ community.
“So that’s a beautiful thing. The beauty is in the mix,” Pelosi says. “And I say to our members: our diversity is our strength. Our unity is our power.”
